Woman says grocery store failed to take needed safety precautions

Cleanliness is more than just a necessity these days — it provides people here in Florida and elsewhere in the country with at least some peace of mind. Grocery stores are one place people tend to frequent where this issue is paramount. With all of the sanitation requirements these establishments need to follow right now, it is possible that other needed safety precautions could fall by the wayside, and customers could end up injured as a result.

For instance, a woman in another state recently filed a personal injury claim against a grocery store in her area. She claims that a loose mat at the entrance was not properly secured and she fell because of it. She suffered numerous injuries, including a broken shoulder and damaged ligaments. She claims to now owe medical expenses for treatment of her hip, arm, shoulder and wrist.

She alleges that the store created a dangerous and unsafe condition by not securing the mat. She claims the store owes her damages for lost income, medical expenses and more. It will be up to an Illinois court to decide.

Many people consider a slip and fall more embarrassing than anything else, but that is not always the case. Like this woman, people can suffer serious injuries. In fact, some people suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and other debilitating injuries that change their lives forever. Even this woman’s injuries could keep her from enjoying activities or performing job duties, she could prior to the accident, even temporarily.

If a Florida grocery store fails to take needed safety precautions and a customer suffers serious injuries as a result, he or she may pursue restitution for the damages associated with the slip and fall. However, a victim may want to consult with an attorney before accepting an insurance settlement or considering filing a personal injury claim. Otherwise, it would be easy to make a mistake that could end up costing an injured victim in the future.
