It may be the holiday season, but the weather is still nice enough in Florida to enjoy outdoor activities. Locals and visitors alike might enjoy taking the family out for a fun-filled day outside. Recently, a family was visiting Florida with two young children, and what should have been a fun excursion turned into a tragedy that may warrant a wrongful death lawsuit.
According to reports, the family was playing miniature golf at a popular facility. Mini golf is an activity for participants of most ages and skill levels, routinely touted as fun for the whole family. By all accounts, this particular family was having a lovely time being together for a little friendly competition, but sadly, the high spirits did not last as disaster struck.
As the children played their way through one of the course’s many holes, a pickup truck jumped the curb. The driver had lost control of the vehicle, and in what seemed like the blink of an eye, the children were struck by it. Both children suffered injuries so severe that recovery was impossible, and as the day ended, both children were pronounced dead.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the initial investigation, but this certainly does not mean he cannot be held legally responsible for the deaths. It has not yet been determined if the driver will face any criminal charges, but the parents could decide to pursue a wrongful death suit against him in a civil court. People in such circumstances often choose to seek assistance from a compassionate attorney. An attorney can handle a lot of the legal legwork so that families can take time to grieve without sacrificing the prospect of swift justice against the party at fault.
