A car accident on Tram Road the evening of Jan. 29 has left three people dead and another person injured, according to local sources. Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the accident occurred around 10 p.m. The driver involved in the crash is the only person to survive. As with most motor vehicle accidents, this one remains under investigation as the driver recovers.
Details from the tragic incident
According to the limited information in the report, it appears the 20-year-old male driver was traveling with three passengers when the crash occurred. Apparently, the driver left the road for reasons that have yet to be determined, causing the vehicle to enter the shoulder before striking the edge of the treeline. The car struck a tree with enough force to tear the vehicle in half.
Two people were pronounced dead on the scene. Two others, including the driver, were rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries. The third passenger was pronounced dead a short time later. The three passengers were all Tallahassee residents and included a 20-year-old woman and two men, aged 20 and 25. The driver remains in serious condition at this time.
The aftermath of these type of accidents
Motor vehicle accidents that cause fatalities are carefully investigated by Florida authorities to determine the extent to which the driver or drivers involved have materially contributed to the crash. In this case, the young driver who survived this crash may face criminal charges if it becomes clear that he caused the crash through recklessness, negligence or some other form of driver error. Even if no charges are filed, the families of the deceased are entitled to file wrongful death lawsuits in civil court.
